Castello di Casole
The Gabbro farmhouse and its six hectares of own land is part of a vast property that provides visitors with the opportunity of many pleasant walks and bicycle rides along the 15 km of country lanes. The whole area is covered with oak and holm-oak woods and the typical Mediterranean scrub and is further characterised by the many vineyards, olive orchards and little strips of lands dedicated to the cultivation of spelt, wheat, sunflowers and peas. This environment offers an ideal habitat for many species of wild animals such as boars, roe deer, deer, porcupines, beavers, foxes, weasels and martens. No public roads run through the property.

History:
The history of the Castle of Casole is tightly linked to the Florentine culture. The estate once belonged to an old noble family of Siena, the Bargagli. The manor and the holdings constituted the compact and harmonious centre of the estate from an architectural viewpoint, but also in respect to the economical and farming activities of the surrounding area. Starting from the middle of the last century, the historical unity of the estate was progressively lost due to fall of the sharecropping system. Restoring the estate to what it once was has been our objective. The Gabbro farmhouse is situated within the area of the town of Casole d’Elsa (Siena). To reach us, take the Colle Val d’Elsa exit on the FLORENCE-SIENA clearway. Continue towards Follonica/ Radicondoli/ Grosseto along the main road SS541 and after approx. 12 km you’ll see an indication on your right to the Castello di Casole farm where one of our representatives will take you to the Gabbro farmhouse.  The lane leading to the farmhouse is a dirt road, but is suitable for driving with any normal car.

An attractive 600 square meter farmhouse of imposing style, typical of those structures conceived as watch-posts or military garrisons. The building interventions that have taken place over the years and the recent restoration have enhanced the particular beauty of the structure. Situated in a quiet spot of a vast estate, the building has spectacular views over the surrounding valleys and hills. The farmhouse accommodates 8 people in 2 rooms and 2 suites one of which is in a lovely separate structure. The austerity of the restored interiors, particularly characterised by the live stone walls, is further accentuated by traditional Tuscan style furniture in the beds, the wardrobes and solid-wood tables and chairs. Valuable pieces of modern design pleasantly contrast with the monochrome background of the bricks and the stones creating a particularly special ambiance.

Ground floor and the mezzanine floor
The living room has vaulted ceilings and is directly accessible from the garden area; one side of the living room opens onto to the dining room leading to the kitchen/dining area, which has an impressive Tuscan fireplace, a pantry and two openings onto a large fully equipped roofed terrace. A hallway, a laundry and a little bathroom complete the utility area. The other side of the living room leads to a spacious lofty hall which has an antique well and a large staircase leading to the upper floor and the bedrooms. On the mezzanine floor is a small room with two single beds, a little sitting room and a bathroom with shower.

First floor and tower
The first floor has a double bedroom with a four-poster bed and large bathroom with a bath and shower and, in the tower, a suite with a living room and fireplace, a bathroom with shower and a double bedroom. The first floor is also accessible from an external staircase with a little portico above the entrance.

The outhouse suite
Situated in the 60 square meter outhouse facing the courtyard, the suite has one bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with a bath and a living room, which opens onto a large roofed terrace.

The swimming pool is situated near the farmhouse and is immersed in the beautiful lush vegetation of the garden. With its 12x6 metre irregular shape, the pool was especially designed to blend in with the surrounding environment: dark in colour and filled to the brim. Fully equipped with deck chairs, sun beds and a small stone building which houses the changing rooms and the shower, the swimming pool can be used from May to October.

Main facilities: Satellite TV, small Hi-Fi stereo system, gas cooker and microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.

External facilities: a large garden with vast furnished roofed terraces and a fully equipped swimming pool with changing rooms and shower available from May to October. For those of you who’d like to experiment with traditional Tuscan cooking the farmhouse also has a wood-burning stove and a large wood-burning pizza oven and a stone built barbecue in the garden.

Other services: maid service is provided two hours a day to clean the rooms and bathrooms. Additional services such as extra domestic help, laundry service, grocery delivery and a cook are available at additional cost.

The final cleaning of the farmhouse is included in the price. Rent also includes 50 KW electricity consumption per day while any extra use will be charged according to the rates of the local companies. Heating is available if required and will be charged per consumption.

The Gabbro farmhouse can be rented for weekly periods starting on Saturdays, even if priority is given to those who book for two weeks. Prices are per week and include taxes, daily cleaning service (two hours a day) and the final cleaning. Prices do not include heating (calculated on consumption) and use of electricity above 50 KW per day. The number of guests must no exceed the number of beds indicated with exception to children under the age of two (cots and linen to be brought by guests). Animals are allowed only after receiving our prior authorisation and the guests are obliged to keep the animals under their control during the vacation.
