Greece,
not
surprisingly,
has
a
Mediterranean
climate,
especially
so
for
the
coasts
and
islands.
Winters
are
mild
and
rainy,
but
the
summers
are
usually
hot
and
dry.
Rainfall
occurs
almost
entirely
during
winter;
the
island
of
Corfu
receives
the
maximum
rainfall
of
1,320mm
/ 52
inches.
Winters
can
be
severe
in
the
mountains.
Average
annual
temperatures
range
from
9°C
(Jan)
to
28°C
(Jul)
in
Athens.
WHEN
TO
VISIT:
Greece,
together
with
its
many
islands
(e.g.
Crete
and
Lesvos),
is a
popular
destination
with
birdwatchers
who
tend
to
favour
the
key
migration
periods
of
early
April
to
mid-May
and
early
July
through
to
the
end
of
October.
Whilst
other
months
will
probably
deliver
a
good
selection
of
birds,
this
country
is
definitely
preferred
for
its
ability
to
offer
good
numbers
of
migrants.
